Last Thursday, Dan took me out with two of his girlfriends, Melanie and Mina - both of whom are very pretty French women with beautiful bodies. We started off with some Pizza which is when the girls realized that I knew absolutely no French. They thought I just didn't speak it, but could understand what they were saying. I told them that I can figure some shit out when I am reading it... sometimes. So they decided to speak some English for me - nice ladies. After dinner, we headed to the garden just outside the Louvre where there was a party going on.
It started out pretty tame... people sitting at the outdoor tables socializing. Dan and I buy a round of drinks - two vodka-tonics and two vodka-redbulls. The tab is 72 Euros (about 100 US dollars). I find out later in the night when I order my own vodka-redbull that it costs 20 Euros (30 US Dollars)... hilarious price... but at least the bartender I went to poured it a little heavier. There are many beautiful people all around this place, but they are pretty lame. Melanie is tired and decides to leave. At one point, a DJ comes out and starts playing some good tunes... We are are pretty much the only ones dancing. I tell Mina that dancing is a language we can all understand together.
We stay there until the party closes at around 2a. I had to go to the bathroom right before it ended but they would not let me inside. I ran from the party through the Louvre and across the street where I eventually found a nice building to urinate on (the bars are pretty dick about letting you in to use their bathroom). Afterwards, I can't quite remember which direction I came from. So I run into the Louvre, but there's a guard there telling me it's closed. Wrong direction I guess. Then I remember and run down towards the garden. It's starting to rain at this point. There is a line of black guards not letting anyone past. This is where a cell phone might come in handy - but I am still glad I don't have one because it makes things more difficult... and I get a sick sense of joy from it. I say, "Hey, please let me by... I just ran out because they wouldn't let me use the bathroom." The guard I am talking to says he doesn't speak English. I say, "That's bullshit. I know you speak English. One of you do. Listen... I was in there with some beautiful women and it is my last night in Paris (definitely a lie). I don't have a phone to call them and I need to meet up with them." They let me pass.
I find my friends and it really starts to rain hard so we huddle underneath the one of the Louvre corridors. I tag along with Mina who puts her jacket over my head as well. We start to make out. Finally, some Parisian love. Dan is hitting on a young Jewish girl. Dan really loves the women... and as a Tunisian Jew, he really has a desire to find a nice Jewish girl. After hanging for a bit, it is decided that we will depart. Dan goes home. Mina asks if I would like to join her and some friends at a club for some more dancing. Of course I agree to go.
She takes me to a club that plays all sorts of good music. This is the first time I am really in a club like this in Paris. It is small (like many things in Paris) but is a good atmosphere. We stay there dancing and enjoying ourselves for a few hours. When we leave, we decide to take a cab together since we live in the same area. She decides to come over. We talk for a little bit, have some fun together and then pass out. Some of you might think lame on my part... but you can fuck off if you think that. I had a good night and we'll leave it at that.
The last few days were spent hanging out in a couple of spots around Paris - I would join Jeremy in the park by the Eiffel Tower, I would hang in the Luxembourg Gardens, I would sit up on the hill at the Sacre Coeur and I would drink at the little cafe down the street from me that I called my local bar.
My last night was spent with Arno, Dan and Seth at some bars in St. Germain. We cheers a few times and then it was off for bed as I had a 9a flight the next morning to Budapest.
I enjoyed myself immensely while living in Paris. I chose a great area to live in and met some people that I would consider to be friends. The city is beautiful. Its architecture is ornate and has a long history. It's main problem is the price at which everything costs... to me, it is just too expensive.
Before starting this adventure, I would always say that New York City is my favorite city to live in. People would ask me where I have been, and I would answer... New York, Miami, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Dallas (too many places in Texas as they all suck except for Austin), Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and some islands in the Caribbean. People would immediately jump on me for having never gone to Europe (or Asia). I knew that I needed to visit some other cities and that I would be doing it in the future. But I would always say... I know there will are many wonderful cities in the world... but I will say now that no matter what, New York will always remain my favorite. So... now I can say that I have visited Amsterdam and have lived in Paris. After the experience, New York is still my favorite city.
I think Paris was a great place to stay for a month. But I would get bored living there. There isn't enough variety... in both the people and the way the city looks. Yes, it is beautiful to look at and there is a lot to look at, but it's still the same. It's like going through one of the grand hallways at the Louvre. The classical paintings are all amazing and beautiful, but they all look the same at the end. And Amsterdam... great place to visit... but I could never live there. And the energy of New York destroys the energy of Paris. So I think for the rest of this trip, I will continue to create opinions on the places I live and visit. You can agree with me or disagree... I don't really care, because that's not what this is about. It's about a feeling and a way that I think about things... and this is my blog... so if you don't like reading parts like this because you are sensitive about some shit, then skip it.
Budapest is next...
